ICSW General Assembly

On Sunday, 28 June, the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) held its General Assembly in Nairobi in an atmosphere of collegiality, constructive dialogue, and shared enthusiasm, building on the momentum of the successful Social Work and Social Development (SWSD) 2026 Joint World Conference.

A central feature of the meeting was the President's Strategic Report, presented by Dr. Sergei Zelenev. The report reviewed the organization's recent achievements and outlined key priorities for the years ahead, including strengthening ICSW's intellectual leadership, expanding partnerships, enhancing youth engagement, and reinforcing the organization's global advocacy role. The presentation generated a lively and forward-looking discussion, with members exchanging ideas and proposals aimed at further strengthening ICSW's impact and relevance in an increasingly complex social policy environment.

The General Assembly also adopted several important governance decisions. Members confirmed the appointment of Dr. Gloria Kirwan to the ICSW Management Committee, welcoming her extensive expertise and longstanding commitment to social welfare and social work.

In addition, the General Assembly elected Dr. Driss Guerraoui as the new Vice President of ICSW, succeeding Ronald Wiman. Delegates expressed their sincere appreciation to Mr. Wiman for his many years of dedicated service, leadership, and invaluable contribution to the work and development of ICSW. His commitment to advancing the organization's mission has been deeply valued by colleagues across the global network.

The Assembly concluded with a renewed commitment to implementing the ICSW Global Programme and further strengthening the organization's role as a leading international voice for inclusive social policy, social development, and social justice.
